The Brookhaven Experiment is a horror-themed first-person VR shooter. In it, you must fend off waves of zombie-like monsters. You hold a PS Move controller in each hand; one represents your character's gun, while the other can be a melee weapon, a flashlight or one of a number of secondary weapons. It's reminiscent of games like the House of the Dead series, but with a few VR-specific twists.
A spooky shooter experience
The Brookhaven Experiment features a simple basic shooter mechanic. In addition to aiming and firing, you can use the circle button to spin around; this is vital, since zombies can attack from any direction. Success earns you money, which you can use to upgrade your weapons, buy more ammunition, and improve your health. The game includes both a narrative campaign mode and a survival mode in which you have to withstand ever-increasing waves of enemies. The monster designs are gruesomely impressive and the virtual reality experience contributes to the horror theme, making the attacking monsters more frightening.
A tense wave shooter
Wave-based shooters are common among VR games, but The Brookhaven Experiment stands out among the field, partly because of its effective controls and partly because of its tense and frightening atmosphere.
